While the original game told you to prepare to die, the sequel to From Software’s critically acclaimed Dark Souls is instead challenging you to ‘Go Beyond Death’ in March of 2014.
Brutally hard, extremely frustrating and equally as awesome, the original Dark Souls attained an extreme cult following after its original release. Its one of the most unique experiences of this gaming generation and its blend of minimalistic storyline, rewarding combat and desire to just beat the damn thing make it many people’s favourite game of the past few years.
As such, a sequel was always going to be inevitable. We don’t know a whole lot about Dark Souls 2 at the moment, but what we do know is that the Dark Souls 2 release date is now officially March 11th in North America and March 14th in Europe.
The news was announced at this week’s Tokyo Game Show and it was also revealed that a PC version is in the works for ‘shortly after’ the release of the console versions of Dark Souls 2.
Also announced was the official Dark Souls 2 Collector’s Edition, which comes with a 12 inch warrior knight statue, a hardbound art book, a fabric map and the official game soundtrack. No price was announced, but I’m salivating at the thought of getting my hands on this one.
A new trailer was also released at TGS for the game (thanks to IGN for the vid).
Dark Souls 2 will release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in the future. A next gen version for the Xbox One or PS4 has not been announced.
